The study of intellectual and cultural currents associated with a specific historical period significantly influences the accurate interpretation of events from that time. During the Minor Occultation, the Islamic community faced unprecedented challenges, necessitating a specialized epistemological framework. This framework needed to be grounded in Islamic teachings, fostering the development of religious insight while simultaneously addressing the rise of misinterpretations stemming from diverse discourses. This research aims to illuminate the intellectual and cultural landscape of the Islamic community from the birth of the Imam until the conclusion of the Minor Occultation. It investigates which intellectual currents contributed to cognitive divergence and the subsequent issuance of letters by Imam al-Hujjah (may Allah hasten his reappearance). By focusing on discourse analysis of these intellectual currents, this paper seeks to bridge the existing research gap regarding the factors influencing the issuance of these letters. Utilizing a descriptive-analytical methodology, the study concludes that the Imam’s concealed existence and the denial of his presence by those close to him—driven by fear of recognition by the prevailing discourse—underscore the challenges faced by Shia discourse in the early Occultation. Consequently, skepticism about the Imam's existence emerges as a primary factor in the rise of extremist ideologies, claims of representation by the Imam, and the fragmentation within Shia sub-discourses.
