Stylistics is a metanormative science in the field of linguistics. It represents the thought system which is specific to a writer or a speaker. In recent decades, stylistics has attracted more attention than before. One of the branches of this science is layered stylistics, which deals with different layers of a piece of text or speech, from phonology to semantics. A new application of this science is the analysis of the voiced and voiceless sounds of a text and the musical effect that they may create to better convey the meaning in consistence with the atmosphere of the language use. Nahj ul-Fasaheh is a book containing the remarks of the prophet (pbuh) about virtues and moralities. The phonological accuracy of his words has provided a good basis for the understanding of his diction and thoughts. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the present study seeks to examine the stylistically important phonological elements and how they are combined together. An attempt is also made to explain the functions of the voiced and voiceless sounds in the words of the prophet (pbuh) with regard to the intended meanings. In addition, the frequency of each sound which has a role in conveying a meaning is determined. As the results indicate, the most frequent voiced and voiceless sounds are the ones that set the internal music of the utterances and contribute to imagery and the reflection of the meanings. More precisely, when the ideas need to be uttered gravely, there is a dominance of voiced sounds, but more voiceless sounds are sensed when leniency is intended.
