Among the ways in commenting the Quran the way of interpreting it by itself is a method going back to the age of the revelation of Quran. The question, however, is how it can be understood without the aid of the narratives and what the place of the narratives is in understanding the Book. The present paper tries to say that Holy Quran can be understood without the help of any other sources as the narratives and Quran's sayings in conveying their messages are eloquent. We can attain to the meanings of the Quran with contemplation and meditation on its text. While this is the case, it does not mean that other resources for attaining the meaning of the Quran are useless, but it means that in order to reach to a full and perfect meaning we are in need of both the Quran and narratives. The paper also deals with the question why Tabatabaee has used much of the narratives and this is while he believed that in order to comprehend the Quran there is no need of appealing to the narratives.
