The first step to gain the knowledge of the Quran is to carefully examine the meanings of its words. Recently, with the development of the semantics approach in Quranic studies, a new method has emerged in this field, the purpose of which is to discover the meanings of hidden layers in the verses of the Quran. In fact, in the semantics of any word, it is noteworthy that the given word has conceptual relations with a series of words, which, as a result, share meaning with a series of semantic elements and are different in some cases. For this reason, the method of understanding conceptual components can be used to examine conceptual relationships. The present article uses a descriptive-analytical method to investigate the semantic features of the words ‘hard work’ and ‘bitterness’ in the Holy Quran firstly in the literal senses of these words. Then, the other words that are similar to them are examined. At this stage, by considering hardship and bitterness as the focal point of this field, some words that have the most common components with these words in the Qur'an are introduced and compared. From the result of comparing the words, it is clear that ‘Lughob’ is suffering from hunger, thirst and fatigue, ‘Nasb’ is any type of physical and mental damage, ‘Waseb’ indicates the suffering that leads to happiness with patience, and ‘Kadh’ indicates a lack.
