Examining the conceptual connections between words and analyzing their semantic structures is one of the effective methods that leads to discovering hidden layers of meaning and a deeper understanding of religious texts. This approach is particularly important in the study of the Holy Quran, which has an unparalleled capacity in terms of linguistic, content, and literary aspects. This study, using a descriptive-analytical method and a systematic approach, has examined the concept of "hell" in the Quran. In this regard, the words related to this concept, while sharing semantics, each display distinct and special semantic capacities in the text of Quranic verses. The findings of the study show that each of these words presents different dimensions of torment and hellfire: "hell" refers to the intensity of the flames and the endless fury of fire; "fire" refers to the act of burning and its effect; "sa'ir" refers to continuous flaming; "saqr" refers to the deep burning and the change in the nature of objects; “Ladhi” refers to pure and uninterrupted flames; “muqadda” refers to continuous flaming; “lahb” refers to visible and pure flames of fire; and “shwaaz” refers to smokeless and concentrated flames. A careful analysis of these words shows that the Holy Quran has used words related to hell with exemplary precision in contexts that each depict a manifestation of divine punishment in a specific way.
