The study of the order of Qur'anic revelation lists, specifically the one attributed to Ibn Abbas and narrated by 'Ata Khurasani, highlights significant criticisms regarding the authenticity of its chain of transmission and content. The research emphasizes the lack of direct connection between 'Ata Khurasani and Ibn Abbas and notes discrepancies in the order of surahs compared to other narratives. This study evaluates the reliability of 'Ata Khurasani's list, examining ancient sources and comparing it with other versions.
The findings reveal that 'Ata Khurasani's list likely originated from him, not Ibn Abbas. Through traditional and modern hadith criticism methods, it is demonstrated that attributing this list to Ibn Abbas is not credible. The study also identifies previously unmentioned ancient sources for 'Ata's list, providing a comprehensive comparison with other narrations of the order of revelation. This research highlights the need for careful examination of the chain of transmission and content of Qur'anic revelation lists to ensure their authenticity and accuracy. The study ultimately concludes that 'Ata Khurasani was the initial publisher of this list, challenging the widely held belief in its attribution to Ibn Abbas. This analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the textual history of the Qur'an and the importance of validating the sources of its transmission.
