Motivation is a mental function that leads one to a certain behavior. If motivations are controlled, human behaviors can be organized. The present study aims at the psychological factors involved in the commitment of crimes from the viewpoint of the Holy Qur’an. Then, with regard to the human nature explained in the Qur’an and from a psychological perspective, a response is found to the question as how someone may be pushed toward a crime. For this purpose, a philosophical approach and a descriptive-analytical method are used to explore the corresponding verses and hadiths. The results of the study mainly suggest that man is a being endowed with two contrasting simultaneous potential dimensions one of which drives him to crimes and the other encourages good deeds. Since man has choices, in various conditions, he may choose either dimension and carry on with it. Based on the Qur’anic verses and considering the human psychological nature, some factors can reinforce negative tendencies, create motives for the commitment of crimes, and actualize them at a certain time. These factors include jealousy, arrogance, ignorance, atrocity, desires, spite, grudge, and suspicion. These factors are not considered to be the only ones and of direct effects; rather, they predispose crimes. If ignored, they can pave the way for criminal behaviors.
