A religion undergoes diversification once it turns from its divine nature into a human entity. In this case, it takes up different forms and ritual practices. Through qualitative content analyses, this study seeks to shed light on one of the facets of religiosity in the Qur’an with a focus on ‘the change of religious positions due to the change of situations’. As the results show, many Qur’anic verses quit the bipolar belief-disbelief context and depict a space where individuals have faith but make shifts in certain situations. This situational religiosity is due to such tendencies as gaining benefits and warding off losses with material and spiritual motives, the occurrence of certain social conditions, and the ignorance of believers regarding the various aspects of religiosity. In this type of religiosity, the position of religion keeps changing, which harms the religious identity of believers by posing a challenge to their ‘sense of resistance’ as a central issue addressed in the Qur’an. However, immunity from situational religiosity is possible through awareness and self-recognition.
