Abstract

Jihad, at all its levels is a sacred duty. However, in the will of Imam Ali (pbuh), based on the Holy Quran, financial jihad is mentioned to be prior to military jihad. The present research seeks to show that this precedence is not accidental and is based on reasons whose recognition and application will lead to greater authority and progress of the Islamic society. The research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method, and the data collection was done through library sources. The content validity of the study is based on reliable Islamic and Shiite sources, focusing on the words of Imam Ali (pbuh). The answer to ‘why financial jihad takes precedence over military jihad’ requires a conceptual understanding of jihad and an understanding of the important pillars of financial jihad, such as asceticism, justice, and economic empowerment. Any military jihad relies on financial power. Moreover, sometimes the economic sphere becomes a field of direct confrontation with enemies, a vast field that creates an important mission for the rich and the poor to overcome problems through work and production, as well as contentment and correct consumption, and create lasting happiness for the society. Although the spirit and purpose of military jihad are not separate from those of financial jihad, the need for an interconnected network of socio-political reasons dictates the inherent priority of financial jihad over military jihad in times of war and peace. This matter gives financial jihad such authenticity and relevance that it takes precedence over military jihad as an emergency contingent matter, which is subject.
