Abstract
One of the most important actions of imams, along with the explanation of prophetic hadiths and religious rules and teachings, was to deal with intellectual deviations and fake hadiths. The fake hadiths that were forged by perverted forgers harmed the religious truths. Accordingly, each imam in his era faced this issue. Imam Javad also criticized and refuted fake hadiths by relying on solid religious and intellectual principles. He criticized the hadiths cited by Yahya Ibn Aktham about the virtues of the caliphs in the presence of Ma’moun in five axes. In the first axis, the Imam cited the verses of the Qur'an and showed the conflict of some of the traditions with the Qur'an. In the second axis, the imam criticized the hadiths against this standard by referring to the correct prophetic tradition. In the third axis, he criticized and refuted fake hadiths in this regard by referring to the certain requirements of the religion. In the fourth axis, Imam cited authentic historical reports to criticize the hadiths that are against this criterion. Finally, in the fifth axis, in some cases, citing certainties and logical axioms that are accepted by everyone, he criticized and rejected some of these hadiths. With a descriptive-analytical method and on the basis of the Imam's words in the debate with Yahya Ibn Aktham, the present study has extracted the criteria for criticizing fake hadiths from this conversation and then analyzed these criteria.
