Abstract
Mojahid ibn Jabr is one of the prominent commentators of the 2nd century.Apart from different narratives quoted from him in narrative interpretations, there is an genuine work titled "TafsirMojahid (the exegesis of Mojahid" which is the only tafsir book from the time of Tabein (the followers) and has been narrated by Ibn AbiNajih of Mojahid; a book that is not extracted from any other tafsir book even TafsirTabari. From among 2130 hadiths in this book, 1731 are narrated from Mojahid and the remain are quoted from different people including Prophet Mohammad, Ali, ibn abbad, Ata and others. These hadiths from others has been added to the book by Adam ibn AbiAyas. In its main chain of transmission there is a transmission of abd al-Rahman from Adam from Varqa from Ibn abiNajih from Mojahid. The most important feature of this tafsir is its explaining the words and phrases of the Quran. Different themes as asbab al-Nozul, differentiations in reading of the Quran, abrogation and abrogated verses, telling the story and… are treated in this book. This paper while introducing the author of the book tries to debate on categorizing this Tafsir and studying its documents.
