Abstract

Establishing the reliability of narrations is inextricably linked to assessing the credibility of the source(s) from which the narration originates and examining the chain of references to the book back to its author. Consequently, hadith scholars recorded their references to books in the introduction, preface, or bibliography of those books. Abu Taleb Anbari is one such narrator whose name appears in the references of a significant number of hadith sources. Therefore, examining his character is crucial to determining the credibility of these books. Given the differences of opinions and doubts of biographers regarding his level of truthfulness and religious affiliation, this research examines the accuracy of various opinions about this person, using a descriptive-analytical method, collecting data, and considering his environment and place of education. Studies suggest that the characteristics of the Wasit region, Anbari's scholarly homeland, can help to resolve certain ambiguities. While Anbari was influenced by the Waqifi school for a while due to his place of residence, he converted to the Imamiyyeh school towards the end of his life. Not only is he truthful, but most of his teachers are reliable in transmitting hadiths as well
