Abstract
Hadiths and narratives are as tools for understanding the purpose of the author of the text. That is because in some cases the meaning of a text cannot be derived from the structure of the text or its context and it should be grasped by outer grounds. It is evident that the extent a commentator uses of asbab al-Nuzul's hadiths differs as to the commentator and as to the different verses of the Quran. In recent times the use of this kind of hadith has been decreased.
This paper seeks to show the status, functions and critical criteria of Asbab al-Nuzul's Hadiths in a work titled "Fi zilal al-Quran" which is an important interpretation in recent days. After a full consideration of the book, the writer first collects all the information necessary for knowing the status of such Hadiths, their ways of being used and transmitted and then shows the functions of such Hadiths in the book. The last part of the paper is assigned to showing the criteria of criticism and analysis of asbab al-Nuzul's Hadiths from the point of view of Seyyed Qutb along with reviewing and rethinking these criteria.
