Abstract

Although many researches have been conducted so far regarding the actions and views of Imam Ali (a.s.) in facing the Khawarij; But it seems that one of the needs is the answer to the question, what themes did Imam Ali (a.s.) express in order to "prevent the emergence of the Kharijite sect"? In other words, what was the "speech pattern" of Imam Ali (a.s.) towards the Khawarij at the time before they became famous as Khawarij? In order to draw the mentioned speech pattern, this article has used the interdisciplinary approach of "thematic content analysis"; Because this approach, with the logical arrangement of the speaker's words, has provided a comprehensive understanding of his thoughts, and has a high ability to draw a pattern of the themes of the words. Therefore, the present article first by referring to Nahj al-Balagheh and authentic historical books, searches for all the sayings of Imam Ali (a.s.) regarding the Khawarij from "the beginning of their rebellion in order to accept the rule of law until before they repented of the said rebellion", and then to the aid of the method "Thematic content analysis" has separated the most important "main and secondary topics" of the said sayings. The result is the achievement of 8 sermons and dialogues, which can be divided into "5 general themes". 52% of the contents of these 5 themes indicate the Imam's effort to make the Khawarij aware of their weaknesses and strengths,
